Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS) "MIDORI" is the first international space platform dedicated to Earth environmental research developed and managed by the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA, changed to JAXA today). At 10:53 (JST) August 17, 1996, ADEOS was launched successfully by an H-II Launch Vehicle No. 4, from Tanegashima Space Center (TNSC), and given a name "MIDORI". It provided a large volume of data containing valuable information about our environment atmosphere, ocean and land for about 10 months until it suddenly got out of control on June 30, 1997 because of the structural damage in its solar array paddle.
